Stewart Stern, Screenwriter
The Red Badge Project was honored to host screenwriting legend Stewart Stern. In a round table discussion students were inspired by the tales of this World War II veteran who began writing to himself as therapy after returning home and whose passion grew into some of Hollywood’s most iconic films to include Rebel Without a Cause and The Ugly American.
Brian Castner, Author of The Long Walk
Brian was kind enough to sit down with our students for a day of discussion on why it is important to share their stories and how tough it can be to do so. A veteran of the War on Terror, Brian has walked in the shoes as our students and with a published book to his name he is truly an inspiration to those students who wish to share their stories.
Kathleen Flenniken – Washington State Poet Laureate
Washington State Poet Laureate Mrs. Flenniken shared her experiences and inspirations with Red Badge students. In class students often listen to and read from several know poets, but it was truly a joy to have one in our presence to share ideas and answer questions. Select here to visit her web site.
Bushwick Book Club
Always a welcome guest, the Bushwick Book Club is a Seattle based book club unlike any other. While they do read and discuss stories, that’s just for starters. With instruments in hand they transform written stories to song, a new twist, which inspires students to explore new ways of expressing their stories and themselves. Select here to visit the web site.
